Sales automation is booming. But while many tools focus on quantity, they often lose sight of the most important thing: authentic communication. In the interview, our colleague and linguist Selin explains how we at DealEngine manage the balancing act between efficiency and naturalness.

DealEngine: Selin, you check the linguistic quality of our automated outbound campaigns. Why is that necessary?

Selin: Because AI-generated texts often have patterns that are immediately noticeable. Certain phrases, recurring terms, or this typically "smooth" tone. The problem: decision-makers have become aware of this. If your outbound message sounds mass-produced, the response rate is correspondingly low.


Is AI in text creation fundamentally problematic?

Selin: Not at all. AI is fantastic for scaling and first drafts. But it tends to fall into "safe" language patterns. Clichés like "innovative solutions" or "optimal results" – such terms are used by almost everyone. That makes texts interchangeable.

How do you recognize if a text sounds too much like AI?

Selin: Several indicators: overly complex sentence structures where simple ones would suffice. Terms that nobody would use in a normal conversation. Or this typical "enthusiasm language" – everything is "exciting," "impressive," or "revolutionary." Real people speak more directly.

How does the quality process at DealEngine work specifically?

Selin: We have developed a four-stage process:
Stage 1: The AI creates a rough draft based on the lead profile and campaign logic.
Stage 2: DealEngine automatically filters according to our specifications – no jargon words, no standard clichés.
Stage 3: I perform spot checks and verify linguistic consistency.
Stage 4: Continuous learning through campaign feedback – the system improves with each iteration.

What happens if you find that texts sound too "robotic"?

Selin: Then I intervene. I replace complicated formulations with simple ones, eliminate unnecessary adjectives, and ensure that the tone remains authentic. Often, it just takes rearranging a sentence or replacing a word.
Example?
Selin: Instead of "We would like to introduce our innovative software solution that optimizes your sales processes," we write: "Are your sales data confusing? We bring structure to it." More direct, concrete, human.

Science meets sales practice

You bring a linguistic perspective. What insights are incorporated into the texts?

Selin: I pay attention to psycholinguistic aspects: How does the brain process information? Short sentences are understood faster. Concrete terms stick better than abstract ones. And: People respond more strongly to problems than solutions – that's why we often start with the pain point.

Are there linguistic "triggers" that work particularly well?

Selin: Yes, but not the ones you would expect. Instead of "revolutionary," "simple" works better. Instead of "maximize," just use "increase." People trust down-to-earth language more than superlatives.

How do you ensure that the style remains consistent?

Selin: We develop individual guidelines for each client – a kind of tailored style bible. There we define exactly how the company should communicate: which terms fit the brand, what tone is desired, how formal or casual the address should be. These client-specific guidelines continuously feed into the system.

Why linguistic quality brings measurable results

Can the impact of linguistic quality be measured?

Selin: Absolutely. We have conducted A/B tests: Messages with our linguistic fine-tuning had a 23% higher response rate than the AI rough drafts. This shows: Authenticity pays off directly.

What is the biggest mistake companies make with automated sales texts?

Selin: They only focus on the quantity. Sending out 10,000 messages sounds impressive – but if only 0.5% respond because the texts are boring, you've gained nothing. Better: 1,000 qualitative messages with a 3% response rate.

Where do you see the future of automated communication?

Selin: AI will get even better at generating natural language. But the human quality filter remains important. Machines do not yet understand context and nuances perfectly. A linguist recognizes what works and what doesn't.
